Hola,
Tomorrow this will be happening at Universidad Autónoma de México: https://gwolf.org/node/4099
I can't attend, but I think it's great that this sort of discussion
happens, specially in Universities.
Saludos.

Hello everyone,
Can you help spread the word about PETS (and the newly announced
stipends) to the people you know who care about applied privacy research,
censorship, surveillance, etc?
The conference is in the US this year, which I expect will be a problem
for some people, but hopefully not for everybody.
(PETS 2018 estará en Barcelona, para aquellos de ustedes que prefieren
un paÃs español.)
Thanks!

Subject: Stipends available for the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium
Hi tor-talk!
The PETS conference is where all of the academic privacy / anonymity
experts gather each year:
https://petsymposium.org/
This year it's in Minneapolis, July 18-21. Please consider joining us --
and if you do, be sure to stay for the hike on July 22, which is where
many interactions and collaborations move forward.
The list of accepted papers is up (and of course it is open access):
https://petsymposium.org/2017/paperlist.php
Thanks to the generosity of the National Science Foundation and
(hopefully) Ford Foundation, we have stipends available again this year,
to help get people to the symposium:
https://petsymposium.org/2017/stipends.php
The deadline for stipend application is May 31.
We especially want to use the stipends to attract perspectives
and motivations that are different from the usual academic
research-and-publishing crowd. In the past we've had great participation
from people who care about building and deploying the tools (aka hackers
and activists), and from people who care about the societal implications
of the research (aka artists and politicians).
Thanks!

criptorave e me indicaram essa lista.
I'm forwarding this message from tor-project. Our proposal for doing a Tor meetup session was accepted at Cryptorave,
Vasilis and I will be hosting it, and we'll like to hear ideas of what it will be good to cover there. Complementing
what isabela said, I'd like to hear from relay operators in Brazil and their experience. I will also bring several
t-shirts and stickers :)

Vasilis will be there too!
Folks wants to organize a Tor meetup there and was asking for some
orientation. I am adding him here too so everyone can talk together :)
I would love to see some stuff like:
1. are the trainers in Brazil in touch with each other? do they
coordinate? if so how?
(I know some of these answers but I would love to see what comes out
from who is there)
2. relay operators - vinicius (egypcio) is someone who can give some
background on what he has done related to that in the northeast of
Brazil (this event is at the southeast so it would be nice for them to
know more about that work)
3. what is the user persona that they have more demand to train on tor?
social movement, journalists, politicians, students? And cases they use
tor for.
4. translation - we need to improve some of the translations (specially
for orbot and start translating orfox :)
5. talk about global south initiative (email list, irc etc) which has to
do with all of the above (I guess)
I will stop here :) since I could go on and on. I believe the above can
help a lot to get things started and maybe generate another 'meet up'
after cryptorave at another opportunity.
cheers o/
