Emeric Vallespi:
Hello everyone! I’m sometime translating the Tor Browser Manual and the Community portal, but I guess we could move faster. Also, I am looking for French speaking volunteers to translate, why not over one day or a weekend for example, what remains to be translated. Especially, about the Tor Browser User Manual, there are only 111 strings left to translate, which means we can complete it in a day! And for the community portal, 1556 channels are remaining. To ensure the best access to the Tor network for as many people as possible, it seems important that the resources are entirely translated. Are there any people among you who would be interested in participating in this quick translate-a-thon?
Great idea, Emeric. French language is spoken in many countries and it would be great to see it advance.
Before translating the Community portal, however, I think it would be great to finish updating this two resources that are already published:
Support portal: translate: https://www.transifex.com/otf/tor-project-support-community-portal/translate... See: https://support.torproject.org/fr/
Tor Project website: translate: https://www.transifex.com/otf/tor-project-support-community-portal/translate... view: https://www.torproject.org/
Let me know if I can be of any help.
Thanks for your initiative and your work!

Bonjour, Émeric,
It is a great idea indeed.
All current collaborators in the Tor French team in Transifex have been messaged last week. That message reminded the team members about the strings that need to be translated, and as emma peel wrote, about the order these strings should be translated.
Do not hesitate to contact me directly about anything related to translation of Tor resources in Transifex.
Kind regards,

Bonjour *AO* and Emmapeel!
Thanks for your reply. Indeed, I received the message and got mixed up with the different strings to translate. Your clarification is welcome.
Tor Browser User Manual, then Tor Support Website and Tor Project Website.
So, if some french-speaking volunteers are interested to collaborate synchronously we could arrange a Poll to find a date and schedule our little event in the next weeks.
If we pass this first step (gathering at least 2 or 3 people, more would be awesome), I guess we could think about what support would be needed (tools or e-material for training). Thanks again for your help.
Looking forward to finding buddies, Best regards, -- Emeric

Speaking of French, there is this ticket where we need help from a native speaker (my French is very bad!)
https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/manual/-/issues/82
Please share your opinion in the ticket, or here, or change it in Transifex if you want but let me know so i can close the ticket.
Thanks!

Hi emmappel,
The problem specified in the GilLab ticket is coming from improper string reuse by the dev team. We know that string reuse is a risky proposition at best, since if the use case changes, the translations may change even if the English doesn’t. The fact that some languages will use articles in most cases but not in others illustrates that problem.
The section titles on https://tb-manual.torproject.org/fr/ were starting with articles, so it was consistent in that sense. I went over that page again and removed them. Both the version with or without articles are grammatically correct for that use case.
Do not hesitate to contact me directly for such problems.
Kind regards,
