Hello,
So adding to the previous discussion, I was not able to run Debian Linux on my machine, or the new Mac OS. What I ended up doing was formatting the hard drive (erasing the OS and all), then did a fresh install of Debian Linux, which after installing failed to load. However, what I then did a fresh install of was Windows 10, and it is successfully up and running.
I have my relay fingerprint backed up. If someone could please send me the instructions for running a relay on Windows 10, that would be appreciated. I know I could run a Debian Linux virtual machine, but would rather not have to deal with VMs.
Your instructions (or ideas) are appreciated. Thank you.
Well done for persevering. Any non-Apple OS software on Apple hardware is inherently prone to difficulties.
However, what I then did a fresh install of was Windows 10, and it is successfully up and running.
I guess if nothing else, we could consider a little more OS diversity to be a good thing.
If someone could please send me the instructions for running a relay on Windows 10
The crux is; you can download a tor binary from the torproject.org website and run it through cmd.exe. ("Command Prompt")
https://www.torproject.org/download/download.html
Windows doesn't ship with any OpenPGP implementation by default (AFAIK), so verifying the signature will be a bit of a pain. You could use a Windows OpenPGP implementation. E.g. Gpg4win, wingpg. But the issue is; how do you then verify the trust of that binary. You get the idea.
Or, you can run the Windows Subsystem for Linux. (WSL) which will give you something close to a gnu/linux runtime on Windows.

Yes. I have downloaded the tor expert bundle from torproject.org, and notice it does not come with a torrc file. I am wondering what a good way to generate one would be. As in, I wonder what a good way to configure the tor expert bundle to generate a torrc file to generate a torrc file that could input the relay settings
Fingerprint DB1AF6477BB276B6EA5E72132684096EEE779D30 (Which was the fingerprint of the relay that was shut down due to the OS switch.
Torrc settins of the relay to be inputted into tor expert bundle

Thoughts on how to do this would be appreciated, thanks very much. FWIW, I have been running various Debian-derived distros (Ubuntu and Devuan, currently) on vintage Macs since Apple switched to Intel processors (and I ran Yellow Dog for years back in the PPC days). You should be able to run it, should you want to try going down that road again. I usually use the text-based installer from an optical disc and don't install a GUI (in other words, I use the "server" distro of Ubuntu; with Devuan and vanilla Debian I think you just tell the installer that you don't want a GUI).
