Static site generators that can handle large sites easily:
* Gostatic: https://github.com/piranha/gostatic (0.3s for 250 pages) * Pacbot: https://github.com/olav/pacbot (Has two modes, dev and build, dev is faster and on-the-fly, while build processes everything and neatly packages files)
However, I have experience with neither.

A 'smart' rendering engine would only render the pages that need to be changed. Right?

How often will the static files need to be rendered?
Off the top of my head (not in front of a computer), When a page is changed or added, the entire site is regenerated.
I could be mistaken.
